Teodulo Romulo was born in Mexico City in 1943. He was educated in Paris and in the late 1970s he joined Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Zuniga, Toledo and other major Latin American artists at the Mixografic Workshop (1979-1986) to explore the mixed media textural process of the Mixograf (hand cast paper sculpture with hand-colored lithography). Romulo’s whimsical cast of characters, the astronaut, the chicken, the cow, the little birdlike “triangulos”, and the assortment of insects, fish and reptiles, all appear in his paintings and his fine prints. Romulo’s generation was deeply involved in the “plasticas,” the textures in fine art. He therefore makes his own canvas and papers to accommodate the third dimension.
